Appeal for Donations for Development
The AMU is regarded today as the most prestigious central residential university.
The University has 12 Faculties, comprising 78 Departments of Studies. It is a predominantly residential University with 14 Halls (67 Hostels) of Residence including 3 for women students and Centre for Non- Resident Students. It has a medical College, a Tibbiya College, a College of Engineering and Technology. Polytechnics for Men and Women, a well-equipped Computer Centre and a Central Library. More than 17,000 students are enrolled in the University and about 7000 students in various schools maintained by it, including more than 600 foreign students from 26 different countries. It has a budget of Rs. 100 crores.
Although the Government is providing adequate financial support to the AMU, there are certain areas, where owing to various constraints, the Government's assistance is not possible or cannot be easily procured, and it is in this context that voluntary and private financial support would be a great help keeping in view the socio-economic factors of the students receiving education in the AMU and also the need to preserve, protect and promote the unique character of this great institution.
The changing pattern of government funding of higher education also calls for public support.
Recognizing the inadequacy of available resources as also the paramount need of the expansion and modernization of the available infrastructure. The UGC and several Committees appointed by the Government have recommended that additional resources should be generated by the University as well, which may be kept in a separate fund to be utilized for furtherance of the objectives of the University and that the UGC may provide a matching grant as an incentive.
The Government have also granted 100% income tax concession on all endowments and contributions to the University particularly concession to the donors sponsoring selected research projects.
The University has visualized a number of projects which it would like to finance by private donations (which shall be used as) a corpus (whose) interest can be utilized for items like repairs of building, improvement in sewerage and internal roads, construction of the boundary wall of the campus, AMU House at Delhi, market complexes, construction and revamping of the existing laboratories and expansion of the existing and creation of new libraries, opening of a Dental College and increase in number of seats in M.B.B.S. Course. The priorities can be determined by an Advisory Committee (with the Hony. Treasurer as the Convener).
The Executive Council of the University may accept the donations from any citizen of India or from Non- Resident Indians or from any public or private organization or institution or Union Government or State Government for the purpose of developmental activities of the University.
Donations may be sent by crossed bank draft (in the name of the Finance Officer or the Hony. Treasurer) along with a covering letter to... clearly indicating the purpose for which the donation has been given.
The present Hony. Treasurer, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad Khan has kindly taken upon himself the responsibility of creating a corpus of over 25 crores for the purpose.
Incentive to Donors
The donors of the Aligarh Muslim University are entitled to claim rebate from Income Tax as permissible under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961.
Names of the donors shall be included in the list of donors to the University to enable them to vote at and be elected to the University Court from Donor's Constituency.
Rooms and buildings constructed from the donations may be named after the donors or in accordance with the desire of the donors, with the approval of the Executive Council, provided full cost is borne.
Such other incentives to donors as may be offered by the Executive Council from time to time.
The University, has helped students, irrespective of caste, creed or religion, to obtain higher education. The backward Muslim community of India has, however, been assisted in its efforts to modernize itself and keep pace with the need of the time.
Delhi Government's Order on Singing of 'Vande Mataram' in Schools, 25 Jan., 94
It has been decided by the Government of Delhi that the National Song "Vande Mataram" composed by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in praise of the Mother Land, will be sung in each recognized school with effect from 27th January, 1994.
In order to instill sense of pride and reinforce national identity among young minds, it is necessary that singing of 'Vande Mataram' at morning prayers in each recognized school should be scrupulously followed. It should be ensured by the Head of Government/Government Aided/Unaided recognised schools including the schools run by MCD, NDMC and Cantonment Board that "Vande Mataram" is sung at Morning Assembly every day.
