If Kashmir ever cedes from India on the basis of religion, there would be strong pressure from Hindus to declare India a Hindu nation.

A united India with Muslims, Hindus and others may never accept Kashmir's secession. Driven to the wall, it may even opt for a bitter armed struggle in Kashmir.
