An Analysis Of 2009 General Election And Some Recommendations For Secular Parties

Starting from UP, the above kind of grand alliance could become a pre-cursor of nation-wide grand-coalition to uproot communalist BJP/RSS, just as Swiss have a grand coalition of all parties allied against their racist SVP party. (Over the past decade or so SVP has become strongest party in Switzerland by stoking racist fear and discrimination against increasing number of immigrants.) The grand alliance of all secular parties in India may either force BJP/RSS to give up their anti-minorities and anti-oppressed caste orientation and attitude, or go out of existence.

BJP hammered, Congress boosted, Left warned

India’s general election has produced a decisive verdict. The people have sent the Bharatiya Janata Party packing and rejected its politics of exclusion, divisiveness and ethnic hatred. This shatters the BJP’s claim to be a “natural” party of governance on a par with the Congress and the national alternative to it. The difference in the two parties’ vote-shares has widened from four percentage-points to nearly 10 percentage-points.

Elections 2009: The mandate for inclusive India

The voters have given their mandates to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for the good governance, inclusive development and secular India. A major shift has been noticed in this election is that the first time in India, the majority of the voters have voted on the issues of development, good governance and inclusive politics by putting aside the caste and communal politics.
