Prof. Mridu Rai: Caste system in India

An Associate Professor in the History Department at Yale, Professor Mridu Rais doctoral research focused on the problem of religion, politics and protest in modern Kashmir. It culminated in her book, “Hindu Rulers, Muslim Subjects: Islam, Rights and the History of Kashmir”. She talks Marilyn Wilkes about her new research in the region of Bihar, India, that explores the relationships between caste, territory, region, and nation as they evolved from the period of British colonial rule into the postcolonial era.
